College Spotlight: Heidelberg University Insurance and Risk Management Concentration

Did you know that between 2016 and 2024, Ohio’s insurance industry needs to fill 29,000 jobs? With that in mind, the School of Business, Computer Science & Information Technology at Heidelberg University has launched an exciting new Insurance Risk Management program as another concentration within the business administration major.

About the concentration

Created last year, the concentration gives students the chance to gain an in-depth understanding on application skills of risk assessment, control, and transfer for individuals, families, and commercial organizations.

Students gain knowledge about different lines of insurance and coverage available. Through completion of course classes and test requirements, students gain the industry knowledge and skills to go on to become successful insurance industry professionals. 

Certifications

Through this concentration, students can achieve substantial progress toward earning industry recognized certifications including:

  • Chartered Insurance Counselor Certification
  • Risk Manager of the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research Certification

Opportunities within the Business Administration Major

While earning a degree with an Insurance and Risk Management focus, Heidelberg offers great opportunities for their students including the Berg Business Board and the PlusOneAdvantage®.

The Berg Business Board is a group made up of businessmen and women of the area. This group provides experience, advice, and support to the students. Students can tap on professionals in their individual areas of interests and gain insight on their industry experiences. These connections can also help students make connections in how their learnings can directly translate to future roles they may hold.

Heidelberg's PlusOneAdvantage Tuition-Free MBA program offers all new first-year students the opportunity to add value to their undergraduate education by adding a Master of Business Administration degree. Business skills help all majors stand out and become more marketable in their own career path. Any enrolled first-year student​ who completes a bachelor’s degree (in any major) at Heidelberg in four years with at least a 3.0 GPA will be eligible to stay and earn a MBA tuition-free.
