Certificate Program

Looking to jumpstart or advance in your insurance career but don’t know where to begin? The Property Insurance Claims Short-Term Technical Certificate at Clark State may be a great option for you!

About the Program

The Property Insurance Claims Short-Term Technical Certificate online program provides students with the skills needed for employment in the property-claims insurance industry, without the long term commitment to a four year degree. The certificate program prepares you for (Associate in Claims) AIC 30 and AIC 31 industry exams. The courses are also applicable to the Associate of Applied Business degree in insurance.

The online format allows students to complete coursework and maintain their other responsibilities consecutively. The majority of the students in the program are non-traditional students. Though the coursework is completed online, there is also on campus support that is available if needed. Online instructors are available to meet in person, and there are also tutors and knowledgeable success coaches available.

Diversity in Career Paths

Students who have earned this certificate have gone on to obtain a variety of different careers.

According to Crystal Jones, Assistant Dean of Business and Applied Technologies at Clark State, opportunities students have obtained include positions as Loss Draft Specialists, Processing Specialists, and Customer Care Specialists.

She also noted the insurance industry offers opportunities for advancement and long-term careers.

“Insurance offers a plethora of positions to accommodate different interests, so an employee could gain experience by working in various departments,” said Jones. “These types of opportunities assist with low turnover rates and allows employees a chance to grow professionally within the same organization.”

Student Success Story

Christopher Berrien is an example of a student who used his certificate to advance in his insurance career. He has been employed by Assurant Specialty Property for the last 12 years, starting there as a Loss Draft Processor. In 2017, he completed the Property Insurance Claims Short-Term Technical Certificate from Clark State. His certificate, past education, work experience, and performance have helped him work his way up within the company. He currently holds the role of Senior Exception Specialist.

Why Insurance Careers

Careers in insurance are not going anywhere. In fact, by 2024, the Ohio insurance industry alone is expected to fill more than 29,000 jobs.

“The insurance industry offers security and stability. With technological advances, all industries are changing, but insurance will never be obsolete,” said Jones.
